Green Witchcraft And How To Apply It To Your Life In 4 Ways

What Is Green Witchcraft?

Green witches use mother nature as an important tool in their craft. And they might identify as herbalists and naturalists. Many green witchcraft practitioners say they have a connection with nature and feel more at home outside than they do indoors.

If you have a calling to be outside in the dirt and grass rather than inside the safety of your home, you may find you are a green witch also! When I first started practicing witchcraft I was told that I might be a green witch, because I loved using herbs for my spells, in rituals and just hanging out outside with my family.

Are You A Green Witch?

Plants

Not all green witches have plants and a green thumb to keep them alive, but I have found that many keep at least fresh herbs or a few plants around their homes. I love the idea of a window-seal herb garden, but for some reason, I just can’t get them to grow. I did however grow mold in the pots pretty easily.

Keeping living plants in your home is a great way to feel closer to nature and remind yourself where you came from. Even just cut flowers can liven a room up with energy.

Herbs

Using fresh and dried herbs is something many many green witches use in their magickal practice. You can use them in spells and rituals, and even make teas and use them in baking/cooking. Putting your intention into whatever you do, is the most important part though, not just the herbs and tools you use.

Crystals

Crystals, as long as they are not man-made, are part of nature and a great way to connect with it. Crystals have the Earth’s energy and are very powerful. Not all witches use crystals, it is completely up to the individual witch and their practice.

Beyond their metaphysical properties, most witches view crystals as living entities (everything has energy and vibrations, even your couch or phone), that possess their own spirit and consciousness. They engage in regular cleansing and charging rituals. You should research your crystals and how to care for each one specifically, as not all crystals have the same physical properties. Some shouldn’t go in water, and some shouldn’t go in sunlight.

Seasons And Elements

The five elements—earth, water, air, fire, and spirit—become essential allies in guiding the green witch on a journey of balance and connection.

You can find the season and element correspondences for almost anything with a quick Google search. Many witches find it adds a bit more oomph to their spell work and is an important part of their practice.
